Our History
The Bartlett Group was established in the UK by the late Fred Bartlett in 1940, and remains a family-owned business. Over the intervening years the business has retained its independence whilst growing into an international organisation.
Bartlett Group Beginnings
The firm was founded in December 1940 by Fred Bartlett in Bradford. In those early years, when the office staff comprised of just himself and one secretary, Fred Bartlett showed remarkable tenacity and inventiveness in finding and securing new business.
After more than 25 years in Bradford, the business moved in 1967 to the neighbouring city of Leeds, following the purchase of Broadway Hall. Originally a residence built 200 years ago for a local surgeon, this imposing building has been substantially altered and extended to become the modern head office accommodation it is today.
In more recent times, the firm has successfully developed overseas, and now has offices in USA, France, Germany, Holland, China and Uganda, with a network of professional associates in thirty more territories around the world.

1965 – Bartlett Life & Pensions established (now Bartlett Wealth Management Ltd)
1967 – Bartlett Group moves to Leeds
1997 – Bartlett & Company Inc established in Philadelphia, USA
1998 – Bartlett & Co. GmbH established in Hamburg, Germany
2001 – Bartlett Asia Ltd established in Hong Kong, China
2003 – Bartlett Group acquires Yorkshire-based Insurance Broker and Financial Adviser Sugden Rodgers, established in 1907
2003 – Bartlett Nederland BV established in Amsterdam, Netherlands
2005 – Bartlett opens office in London
2007 – Bartlett France SARL established in Paris, France
2007 – Bartlett & Company Ltd awarded CII Chartered Broker Status
2010 – Bartlett Africa Ltd established in Kampala, Uganda
2011 – Bartlett & Company Ltd named Chartered Broker of the Year and Commercial Lines Intermediary of the year in UK Broker Awards
2011 – Bartlett & Company Inc win in the national NU/AA&B Commercial Agency Awards for Excellence
2012 – Bartlett & Company Ltd becomes a registered Lloyd's Broker
