Global Citizenship
For us Global Citizenship means taking practical, holistic local action in regions where we do business and there is greatest need to advance the well-being of People, Planet, and the Trade which creates the surpluses to invest in education, health and a better life.
Integrity, rigour, compliance, innovation and leadership are how we do business. We apply these values to our work as Global Citizens, along with the compassion that one would expect from a three-generation family business.
Bartlett has a long history of supporting the developing world in general, and in supporting educational projects in particular. Much of our support has been focused on Bishop Nkoyoyo Secondary School in rural Uganda. We have funded the purchase of computers, and the establishment of a computer department/network within the school. We have also supported the building programme which culminated with the opening of the Bartlett Hall at the school in 2011. Bishop Nkoyoyo SS is considered to be one of the best performing schools in Uganda and now has a school role of over 700 students. Tertiary education is beyond the reach of many Ugandans, and as part of our support programme we funded scholarships to enable the school's students to attend Makerere University. Founded by the British, Makerere was regarded as the foremost University in East Africa. Some of the students we have supported in this way have now joined the payroll of Bartlett Africa Limited at our office in Kampala.
We have also supported projects in many other parts of the developing world.
