Financial institutions insurance is complex. Claims are rare, but when they occur they are demanding, time-consuming and costly. Effective cover depends on more than policy wording — it requires clear disclosure and genuine insurer understanding. If an insurer doesn’t understand the risk they won’t cover it – or they’ll price their own uncertainty into the policy.

Our role is to remove that uncertainty. We work with investment managers, private equity, venture capital and financial services firms to build an unbroken chain of understanding between client, broker and insurer.

We employ technical experts – in broking, law, underwriting, financial analysis and claims – so you will always deal directly with people qualified to understand the complexities at work. We are commercially independent, allowing us to prioritise long-term client relationships over short-term market pressures.

Meaningful disclosure

We don’t rely on tick-box forms, and we never data-dump on insurers, because that’s how details get missed – or misinterpreted. Instead, we analyse both quantitative and qualitative aspects of your risk, and fully educate insurers to make sure we get the most competitive price.

Claims at the core

We see claims as being an integral part of our service, not an inconvenient cost centre. Our specialist claims team sits within our Financial Institutions broking division and works closely with clients and insurers to make the claims process as collaborative and smooth as possible.

Richard Whitehead ACII

Head of Financial Institutions

Richard has over 20 years of insurance experience, including the last 11 years at Bartlett. He specialises in complex insurance for mid-market investment managers and global corporates and has specific expertise in Financial Lines insurance. Richard is the head of our Financial Institutions and Corporate divisions.

Jade Cherry LLB ACII

Deputy Head of Financial Institutions

Jade originally trained as a lawyer at Pinsent Mason, before moving to Bartlett in 2018. Her legal background underpins a rigorous, commercially focused approach to complex insurance placements and multi-jurisdictional programmes. Jade is responsible for talent development and strategic growth across our Financial Institutions division.

Jenny Howarth LLB Hons, BVC

Head of Claims and Governance

Jenny has over 25 years’ legal and insurance experience. Prior to joining Bartlett in 2022, she spent 10 years in private practice as a coverage and wordings solicitor at a leading insurance firm, and 12 years with a global insurer in senior technical claims management roles for UKI and Europe. Her professional focus is on Financial Lines, coverage and Claims Management.

Stephen Taylor-Hart ACII

Divisional Director

With over 15 years’ insurance experience, Stephen brings a wealth of experience to the team. He joined Bartlett in 2018 and has specialised in Financial Institutions for over half of his career.

Daniel Lim IMC, FCII

Divisional Director

Daniel has over 20 years’ experience in the London market, specialising in Financial Institutions insurance. He has held senior roles at Gallagher and Aston Lark (now part of Howden), including underwriting on various insurer binders. Daniel brings extensive expertise in broking, structuring complex insurance programmes and delivering strategic solutions for clients.

Sean Le Feuvre ACII

Divisional Director

Sean has over 12 years of experience in the Insurance broking sector, including 7 years specialising in Financial Institutions at Bartlett. Sean has core responsibility for cyber insurance placements and ongoing management of cyber services within the Financial Institutions division.

Ella Holmes LLB, Cert CII

Associate Director

Ella originally trained as a Lawyer at DWF before moving in-house to BUPA, specialising in commercial contracts and data protection. She started working for Bartlett in 2023 and is a technical expert on Investment Management Insurance and Financial Institutions policy wordings.

Anna Marsden-Ragnarsson LLB

Associate Director

Anna originally trained as a lawyer at Eversheds before moving to Shoosmiths, specialising in litigation. She supports the team on multinational considerations and knowledge of policy wordings.

Gabriel Swales LLB, Cert CII

Associate Director

Gabriel originally trained as a lawyer at Mills & Reeve before specialising in Private Client law at Taylor Emmet. At Bartlett he balances specialist support in Financial Institutions insurance with senior operational leadership - driving systems, processes and data to underpin high-quality client service.

Account Executive

Ellie worked as a lawyer for 18 years, specialising in commercial property and real estate. She joined Bartlett in 2024 and particularly enjoys supporting our graduates to develop their insurance expertise.

Amelia Wheatcroft-Brown, ACII

Senior Account Executive

Amelia spent the first three years of her career as a paralegal at Pinsent Masons and Eversheds Sutherland before moving to Bartlett in 2020. She has a particular interest in fund strategies and how they are shaped by economic cycles and shifting insurance market dynamics.

Sam McAvoy ACII

Senior Account Executive

Sam joined Bartlett as a graduate and has been working in insurance for six years, specialising in the placement of multi-layer insurance programmes for asset managers and financial institutions, with a particular focus on hedge funds and stockbrokers.

Tarryn Hindle, LLB

Senior Claims Executive

Tarryn has 14 years’ experience in the insurance industry including 10 years as a practising attorney in South Africa, specialising in insurance-related legal work. Tarryn handles complex Financial Lines claims for FI and Corporate clients at Bartlett and has experience of PI, D&O, EPL and cyber losses.
